Visual Arts Tour – Italy 2015

SIENA – The Siena Cathedral begun in the 12th century, is a masterpiece of Italian Romanesque-Gothic architecture, and where we were to celebrate Easter Sunday mass. A beautiful cathedral built with soaring arches of black and white marble crowned with a massive dome, create an impressive space filled with beautifully carved statues and intricately inlaid marble floors depicting saints and their good works. Individual family altars line the naïve dedicated to the wealthy of the medieval town. As a UNESCO Work Heritage Site, Siena has preserved its gothic appearance from the 12th to 15th century. After mass and a quick lunch and tour of the town we traveled on to Florence.
