Visual Arts tour – Italy 2015

POMPEII – Early on day two, everyone boarded the bus to ride two hours to arrive in the ancient city of Pompeii. The overcast sky, threatening rain, cast a gloomy feel on the city that had been entombed by a volcano over two centuries ago.

Good Friday, what better place to spend the day but in Rome! The ruins around the Coliseum, including a garden and the Roman Forum of excavated buildings, then on to the actual Coliseum where gladiators fought to the death for the amusement of Romans and emperors. Afterward a visit to the Vatican Museums and the Sistine Chapel to view the amazing frescoes of Michelangelo. Though the clouds threatened rain, a silver lining appeared as we entered Saint Peter’s square.
