A key contributor to the Monarchs advancing to four CIF-SS boys’ water polo championship games, winning three titles over the course of his varsity career, McQuin Baron ’14 has been inducted into the Mater Dei Athletic Department Hall of Fame.
Baron served as the backbone of the defense with his imposing 6-foot-9 frame, registering 1,203 saves in four seasons as the Mater Dei goalie. He also played a significant role in the Monarch’s counterattack, recording 162 career assists.
While at Mater Dei, his teams won a remarkable 96 percent of their games (119 victories in 124 outings) and posted an unprecedented 105-game win streak that spanned from when he was a freshman to his senior year. Baron was chosen to the CIF-SS First Team as a junior and then went on to be named the CIF-SS Player of the Year and Orange County Register Player of the Year at the conclusion of his senior season.
He is the 60th Monarch to be inducted into the school’s Hall of Fame.
