On the Sidelines: In The Books!

athletics message logoBelow is a wrap-up of the 2013 fall sports season at Mater Dei.

Cross Country (Boys)

Did not qualify for the CIF-SS Prelims.

Cross Country (Girls)

Finished second in the Trinity League Championships and qualified for the CIF-SS Prelims…season concluded with a seventh place finish in the CIF-SS Prelims.


Posted a second place finish in the Trinity League…in the CIF-SS Pac-5 playoffs had victories over Oaks Christian, 28-17, Mission Viejo, 21-14, and Long Beach Poly, 30-0, before losing in the championship game to St. John Bosco, 34-7.

Golf (Girls)

Won the Trinity League championship for the fourth straight year…went undefeated in head-to-head match play for the second consecutive season…dating back to September 6, 2011, has now won 34 straight head-to-head competitions…captured the CIF-SS Southern Division Championship for the second year in a row…four golfers qualified for the CIF-SS Individuals Tournament.

Tennis (Girls)

Came in third place in the Trinity League…lost to Brentwood, 10-8, in the first round of the CIF-SS Division 1 playoffs.

Volleyball (Girls)

Finished second in the Trinity League…played in the CIF-SS Division 1AA playoffs, beating Temecula Valley in three games, Huntington Beach in three games, Corona del Mar in four games, and Great Oak in five games…lost in the championship match to Los Alamitos in four games…qualified for the CIF-State Division I playoffs and won matches over Clovis West in three games and Torrey Pines in four games…season concluded with a three-game loss to Los Alamitos in the semifinals.

Water Polo (Boys)

Won the Trinity League championship for the seventh consecutive year…got wins over Crespi, 16-1, Corona del Mar, 10-4, and Loyola, 7-3, in the CIF-SS Division 1 playoffs…had streak of five straight CIF-SS titles come to an end with a 9-6 loss to Harvard Westlake in the championship game…dating back to the 2010 season, won a CIF-SS all-time record 105 games in a row before suffering a 9-8 loss to Cathedral Catholic on November 9.
