On the Sidelines: 2013 Spring Sports Wrap Up

Won USA Baseball’s National High School Invitational for the second consecutive year as well as the inaugural Boras Classic…posted a 14-1 record in the Trinity League and was designated the #1 seed in the CIF-SS Division 1 playoffs…was upset in the first round by Huntington Beach, 2-1…had a 22 game win streak in posting a 24-3 overall record…spent significant time during the season as the nation’s #1 ranked team…finished the season ranked 16th nationally by Baseball America.

Golf (Boys)
Finished first in Trinity League play with a 9-1 record…placed third in the CIF-SS Western  Division Team Championship…advanced on in the post-season, but the year came to an end with an eighth place finish in the CIF Team Qualifer.

Lacrosse (Boys)
Did not qualify for the U.S. Lacrosse Southern Section playoffs

Lacrosse (Girls)
Went undefeated in the Trinity League and qualified as the fourth seeded team in the U.S. Lacrosse Southern Section playoffs…defeated Temecula, 16-5, in the first round of the playoffs…had a thrilling 12-11 win over Tesoro in the quarterfinal round…lost to eventual champion and #1 seed Los Alamitos in the semifinals, 24-11.

Softball
Won the Trinity League championship with a 9-1 record…earned the #2 seed in the CIF-SS Division 1 playoffs…suffered a 4-2 first round loss to Foothill…finished the season with an overall record of 22-5.

Swimming (Boys)
Finished in second place in the Trinity League with a 4-1 dual meet record…had a 7-1 overall record…went on to the Trinity League Finals and again posted a second place finish…placed 7th in the CIF-SS Division 1 Championships.

Swimming (Girls)
Had a 4-1 record in Trinity League dual meet competition to finish second…finished the season with an overall 7-1 record…posted a second place finish in the Trinity League Finals…placed 5th in the CIF-SS Division 1 Championships.

Tennis (Boys)
Beat Servite 9-9 (78-77 on games) in the final regular season match to claim third place in the Trinity League and a berth in the CIF-SS Division playoffs…lost to San Clemente in the first round of the playoffs, 17-1.

Track & Field (Boys)
Logged an undefeated 5-0 mark in dual meets to claim the Trinity League championship…finished second in the CIF-SS Division 3 Championships…posted a 61st place finish in the CIF-State Championships.

Track & Field (Girls)
Won the Orange County Championships for the third straight year…posted an undefeated 4-0 dual meet record to finish in first place in the Trinity League…came away with a second place finish in the CIF-SS Division 3 Championships…Tara Radan was the 400m individual champion at the CIF Masters Meet…finished tied for 66th place in the CIF-State Championships.

Volleyball (Boys)
Ended Trinity League play as the second place finisher…beat Chaminade in three games in the first round of the CIF-SS Division 1 playoffs…went four games to advance past Palos Verdes in the second round…lost to San Clemente in the quarterfinals in four games.

Katie Lou Dons the Red, White, and Blue
Mater Dei junior-to-be, Katie Lou Samuelson, represented the United States in the 2013 FIBA Americas U16 Championship…the event took place June 19 – 23 in Cancun, Mexico…Samuelson averaged an impressive 16.0 points and 5.6 rebounds as the USA went undefeated in five games to win the gold medal…in the five games, Samuelson heated it up offensively as she shot 51.9 percent from the field (28-54) and 52.9 percent from behind the 3-point arc (18-34).
