On the Sidelines: Fall Sports Wrap Up

Below is a wrap-up of the 2012 fall sports season at Mater Dei.

Cross Country (Boys)
Finished second in the Trinity League Finals and qualified for the CIF-SS Prelims…posted a sixth place finish in the CIF-SS Prelims and moved on to the CIF-SS Divisional Championships…season ended with a 16th place finish in the CIF-SS Divisional Championships.

Cross Country (Boys)
Posted a third place finish in the Trinity League Finals and advanced to the CIF-SS Prelims…finished fourth in the CIF-SS Prelims and qualified for the CIF-SS Divisional Championships…season came to an end after finishing 11th in the CIF-SS Divisional Championships.

Football
Finished second in the Trinity League…began the CIF-SS Pac-5 playoffs with a 71-10 victory over Lakewood…won a thrilling, come-from-behind, second round playoff game over Alemany, 53-42…blanked St. Bonaventure on the road, 21-0, in the semifinals…lost to Long Beach Poly in the CIF-SS Pac-5 Championship, 35-17.

Golf (Girls)
Won the Trinity League with an undefeated 8-0 record…captured the CIF-SS Southern Division Team Championship…finished second in the WSCGA Southern California Championships and advanced to the CIF-State Qualifying Tournament…season concluded after finishing fourth in the CIF-WSCGA Southern California Regional Tournament…six golfers qualified for the CIF-SS Individual Championships…two golfers advanced to the CIF-State Individual Championships.

Tennis (Girls)
Did not qualify for the CIF-SS playoffs.

Volleyball (Girls)
Finished first in the Trinity League…swept Trabuco Hills in three games to open the CIF-SS Division 1 playoffs…won three straight games against Huntington Beach in a second round match to advance to the quarterfinals…was eliminated from the postseason on the road at Corona del Mar in four games.

Water Polo (Boys)
Extended its unbeaten streak to 78 games dating back to the 2010 campaign, finishing the season with a 31-0 record…beat Edison in the first round of the CIF-SS Division 1 playoffs, 21-10…took care of Harvard Westlake, 15-6, in the second round…eliminated Corona del Mar, 18-9, in the semifinals…won a fifth consecutive CIF-SS championship with a 13-6 win over Long Beach Wilson.
