Mater Dei’s Incredible Retreat Program

It has been a very busy fall all over campus here at Mater Dei including in Campus Ministry.

Enjoy a recap of the fall retreats thus far from Kendra Hart, Director of Retreats in Mater Dei Campus Ministry.

Sophomore Retreat

For the first time, the Sophomore Retreat was held on the Mater Dei Campus on September 14, 2012.  It was a great turnout of 120 sophomores and nine seniors who lead the retreat.  The theme for this retreat was “Lift Me Up” as the students stayed up all night participating in prayer and activities.

The senior leaders prepared five talks recalling their “Journey of High School Life and Faith” during their sophomore years.  The retreat ended with Mass in the Gail and Gordon Lee Family Chapel right here on the Mater Dei Campus.  It was great to have a MD alumni, Fr. Ed Poettegan ’72  to celebrate mass with these retreatants.

Walk in Faith

The First Walk in Faith of the Year 2012-2013 school year took place October 14-16, 2012 at Mission San Luis Rey.  Adult leaders on Walk in Faith usually consist of faculty and staff members. However, this retreat, we were fortunate to have had four students from the Class of 2005 and 2008 come back to help on the retreat as young adult leaders.

“I loved serving as an adult leader because it is a chance to live my faith, give back to Mater Dei, and to continue to be a part of the Walk in Faith Community” said Kristen Lee ’08.  We will have two more Walk in Faith Retreats this year.  The February 3-5, 2013 retreat has been filled already, however there are many openings for the upcoming Spring Walk in Faith which will take place April 14-16, 2013.  Please contact Mrs. Hart for an application khart@materdei.org.

Junior Retreat

This fall, the theme for Junior Retreat was “Set the World on Fire.”  The students sign up voluntarily to go on all of our class retreats.  This retreat consisted of 62 students of the Class of 2014.  The retreat is lead by seniors who experienced the Junior Retreat for themselves last school year.

Many of them had such a great experience taking time out of their busy schedules to reflect on their relationship with God, and they wanted to create this type of experience for this year’s junior class.  The junior class retreats are overnight at the Irvine Ranch Outdoor Education Center, which is a beautiful and safe facility providing many opportunities for students to explore God in Nature, in classmates, and recognize God in themselves.
