A week in the life of the sacramental life here at Mater Dei….

With the 2012-13 school year in full swing, a lot is happening here at the corner of Bristol and Edinger!  From sports practices and games to ShortsFest and the Performing Arts tour to our first rally of the school year, the business (and craziness) of the fall is most certainly upon us.  It has been a blessing to witness this level of activity here in Campus Ministry.  Here’s a look back at a week in the sacramental life of this past school week….

Monday evening ~ The entire water polo community gathered for Mass with Father Patrick Moses, Pastor of St. Ireneaus Parish.  Father Patrick’s homily echoed the team goal of “who is on your team”~ and if Christ is on your Team—all things are possible.

Tuesday morning ~ Msgr. Michael McKiernan, Pastor of Christ Our Savior Catholic Parish celebrated Mass with the Campus Ministry Student Leadership Team and members of our Mater Dei Community. Msgr. comes every Tuesday and Wednesday to celebrate Mass with our students during lunchtime.

Wednesday Morning ~ Over 500 fall sports athletes and their coaches joined for Mass in the LeVecke Center to ask God’s blessings as they began this new season.  Father Brendan Manson ’89 presided over this Mass.  Each coach received from their captains a blessing and a new crucifix a symbol of this year of faith and in gratitude for the deep faith of their coaches.  In turn, each coach ask God’s blessings on their teams.

Thursday afternoon ~ The varsity football team gathered in the Mater Dei chapel for their weekly Mass celebrated by Father John Weling ’72 (and a former MD Football player).

Saturday  morning ~ 130 Sophomore Retreatants  and a number of their parents celebrated Mass with Father Ed Poettgen ’72 to give thanks for the powerful and prayerful retreat experience they shared throughout the night.

What a great week! We continue to look forward to what the coming weeks will offer us and give thanks to God for the blessings each new day brings us here at Mater Dei.
