While the 2012-13 school year is only in its second week, the admissions marketing season has begun for students who will join our school community next year.
The Office of Advancement & Alumni is busy scheduling tours and shadow days, visits to feeder schools and gearing up for our first information night on Wednesday, October 17 at 7 p.m. in the Meruelo Athletic Center.
One of the items that each and every prospective student receives while going through the admissions process is the Mater Dei admissions folder which is designed to look like a Mead Pee Chee folder. In the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s, the Pee Chee was the folder to have in your backpack! Four years ago, the Advancement Office and the Visual Arts Department partnered to design the Mater Dei Admissions Pee Chee. Under the supervision of Visual Arts Department Chair Mrs. Catherine Wilson, students in the AP Studio 2D course assist with the graphic design and layout of the Mater Dei Pee Chee. The Advancement Office selects the folder images and the students use Adobe Illustrator in our iMac lab to convert the images to the “pee chee style.”
Two weeks ago, Mrs. Wilson and two of the folder artists, Claire Alex ’13 and Mikyla Perez ’13, went on a “press check” for Volume IV of the pee chee at Main Graphics in Irvine, CA.
The students and Mrs. Wilson got to experience the print process while ensuring the integrity of their designs.
This was an incredible experience for all and we are grateful to Main Graphics for taking the time to educate our students as we toured the print house.
Over the years, the Mater Dei Pee Chee has become the brand for our admissions process and hopefully it is as cool as the iconic original. Hope to see a Mater Dei Pee Chee in your hands very soon!
