MDHS Theatre Arts awarded in Sacramento

Our Theatre Arts program recieved two very special awards from the California Educational Theatre Association (CETA).

In January, we won the California Youth In Theatre Scholarships for Sceneworks and Senior Monologues. Our Sceneworks piece was The Tempest, directed by Mr. Williams and starring seniors Matt Dallal and Alexa Vellanoweth, sophomore Massimo Napoli. This scene also won Best Actor Matt Dallal at the Chapman University Shakespeare Festival in February. Our CETA Senior Monologues Award was for Bang Bang You’re Dead and Reinventing 007 performed by Matt Dallal.

Students Massimo, Alexa, Matt & Mr. Williams met with State Senator Lou Correa

Our scholarship was to cover travel expenses while representing CETA and MDHS at the annual California Youth in Theatre Day in Sacramento at the Capitol. Our students recieved certificates from Senators and the Lieutenant Govenor. They met with legislators and attended performances. They also performed on the Sacramento Theatre Company stage. The day after they returned to Mater Dei, these students performed their scene and monologues at our annual spring ShortsFest event in the Little Theatre.
