This weekend, Mater Dei Cheer program is in Orlando, Florida. 54 students have traveled to compete at the National High School Cheer Competition (NHSCC). It is sponsored by the Universal Cheerleaders Association (UCA) and is known as the most prestigious cheer leading championship. The finals are shown annually on ESPN and ESPN2.
The first year UCA held the NHSCC was in 1980. Mater Dei won the competition that year. Schools from all over the country qualify to compete at NHSCC in various divisions and categories.
Mater Dei will perform in two divisions at preliminary rounds on Saturday February 12th. At 10:30am the all girl team under the direction of Dee Aldridge will compete in the Large Junior Varsity category. At 11:55am the co-ed team under the direction of Jasen Aldridge will compete in the Small Co-Ed Division 1 category.
