Performing Arts Tour: What is It?

In the spring of 2010, the Mater Dei High School Performing Arts Department embarked on a new tradition and began showcasing the talents of our performing students on the campuses of Catholic elementary schools in the Diocese of Orange through a program we call the Performing Arts Tour.

Our traveling tour features performances from our band, color guard, choir, dance team, theatre arts groups and cheer and song squads. We travel with a sampling of students and instructors from these groups and have performed in parish halls, outdoor playgrounds and multipurpose rooms. It has been a great way for future Monarchs to see and experience the performing programs that they could be a part of at Mater Dei High School. Our students also enjoy sharing their experience with the audiences at the schools we visit. It has been fun to witness current Mater Dei students at their elementary school alma maters inspiring their younger peers to follow in their footsteps to Mater Dei.

In the last year, we have been privileged to visit St. Edward the Confessor School (Dana Point, Blessed Sacrament (Westminster), St. Polycarp (Stanton), St. Joachim School (Costa Mesa), Our Lady Queen of Angels (Newport Beach), St. Anne School (Santa Ana), St. Joseph School (Santa Ana), St. Jeanne de Lestonnac School (Tustin) and St. Cecilia School (Tustin).

This week we will be visiting St. Juliana School (Fullerton), St. Joseph School (Placentia), St. Francis of Assisi (Yorba Linda), St. Angela Merici (Brea) and St. Edward the Confessor (Dana Point).  We are so thrilled to be visiting these schools and look forward to the possibility of their students becoming part of Mater Dei and perhaps our performing groups in the future.

It is our goal to continue to offer these “traveling shows” during the fall months and in the spring in conjunction with Catholic Schools Week.

Be sure to visit the various web pages of our Performing Arts Department to see what’s happening in the next few months.  We’d love to have you come to a show or event in the very near future.
