After being named by ESPN Rise and USA Today, the 2009-10 Mater Dei girls’ basketball team was recognized with the unveiling of its first-ever National Championship banner. The national championship comes on the heels of the girls’ basketball team winning both CIF-SS and CIF-State championships. The 2011 Mater Dei baseball team was honored with the unveiling of its CIF-SS Championship banner. In winning its third such championship in school history, the baseball team “caught lightning in a bottle” during the postseason, outscoring opponents 36-3 in five playoff wins. In the 2-0 championship victory vs. Dana Hills, Cory Hahn and Ty Moore combined to pitch a perfect game, the first time such a feat has ever been accomplished in the final game of the CIF-SS playoffs. The team finished the season nationally ranked #5 by MaxPreps, #13 by Baseball America and #18 by USA Today
